You are not off base here. Chat is supposed to be fun for everyone, and it's the dumb stuff we usually talk about that makes it this way. It is in no way a homework help centre, but I understand, that users come and ask such questions all the time. It's fine if you want to help, but it should not get annoying. If I can quickly answer the questions, then I'll ...

Update 2017-05-01 The MathJax CDN retired and the javascript-URL idea is not so easy any more, because of browser security. (Chrome stips away any leading javascript: when pasting into the URL line. SE modified the javascript: link so that it does not work.) So here is my take. I modified the script to load the new mhchem (v3), together with cancel (and ...

Thanks for bringing this up. When I first noticed this behaviour I shared your concerns, but personally I think it is not that bad at all. My stance on this is: anybody is free to bring their things to chat, within reason. That includes homework-style questions (for lack of a better word). If somebody wants to answer homework, then they can do so; if they ...

As a site grows it is expected to have more and more unanswered questions. In beta stages it was important to get to approximately 90% answered questions to show that there is an answering crowd with the interest to provide these. With growth (as one might hope) the field is broadened, more specialised questions get asked, which are difficult to answer. On ...

Based on the same principle, this little bookmarklet loads cancel in addition to mhchem: javascript:(function(){if(window.MathJax===undefined){var%20script%20=%20document.createElement(%22script%22);script.type%20=%20%22text/javascript%22;script.src%20=%20%22http://cdn.mathjax.org/mathjax/latest/MathJax.js?config=TeX-AMS_HTML%22;var%20config%20=%20%...

Moderators can see all previous suspensions on a chat user as well as any times a room owner kicked a particular user. All of these events are logged and visible to any diamond moderator in chat. I can see this information as I'm a moderator in chat, and your account was never suspended and was never kicked out of any chat room. So this must have been a ...

This is not something that the moderators can do on a per-site basis. So, I am not really sure if there is much we can say about this matter. Scrolling through meta.SE the closest related question I could find was this: How do moderators permanently add Site Chat Room to main page sidebar? which I believe Loong already linked you to in chat. Of course, you ...

In general there is no way to privately contact the users of this platform. You can leave a comment on a post of the user you wish to contact and hope they will come back to you. You can also use the chat rooms (https://chat.stackexchange.com/) to contact them openly. Moderators and staff have the ability to create private chat rooms for moderation ...

So far, I don’t see homework helping in chat as a problem, but I also think that it has the potential to become a problem. There are long streches of time when practically nothing happens in chat. If someone asks a random homework question and somebody else replies, they solve the problem, blabla, that’s fine. Maybe somebody else then comes in and starts a ...

Thanks, fixed now. The chemistry.se theme has extra styling for buttons in the bottom area, and those extra styles were incorrectly applied here as well.

How are you going to enforce the current or proposed new guideline? Rather than trying to bend other people's behavior to suit ourselves, it is much easier to do things that are already within our control. But nobody wants to hear the constant "donk" noise all the time. If you don't like it, in Chrome you can right-click the tab and then click "mute tab"....

Please note that I am talking about my own experiences and I do not speak for the moderator team in this instance. Dealing with comments is not much fun. Most of the times the comment flags that come in are obvious and I simply move to delete them. I cannot always check whether they would destroy an argumentative chain or conversation. Comments are not for ...

Elevating to comments to the answer field (because I think they’re enough): It hasn't been around for quite a while, neither has its developer; I wouldn't get my hopes up. – Martin - マーチン♦ Jun 25 at 9:39 It's pretty much dead. I deleted the post. Can always be undeleted if it's back at some point in time... – orthocresol♦ Jun 26 at 7:24 In summary: Yeah, ...
