Let's not close questions as homework except for blatantly obvious cases (at least for a while)

Pre-experiment stats up to 2016/08/31 16:00 UTC. Post-experiment stats up to 2016/10/01 16:00 UTC. Total question statistics $$\begin{array}{|c|c|c|} \hline & \textbf{Pre-experiment} & \...

Is there a minimum reputation to post a question?

This is probably a really bad idea. Many new users come to this network, because they seek answers. They might stay because they get one. And while they are here they might answer questions themselves....

Is there a way to proactively vote against closure?

Just going to rattle off a quick answer. There are a few ways. None of them will actively stop people from voting to close, but this is about as good as it gets. Firstly, you can leave a comment, ...

Do we have a close-voting but not closing problem?

My observation/opinion: I think so, yes. I am the top-ranked reviewer for close, low quality, and reopen queues; second on first posts; third on late answers; and fourth on suggested edits. Other ...

The reason "unclear" is unclear

I want to begin by clarifying: it is not ‘“all-powerful” moderators’ (quotation marks present in the original) that close questions. Rather, like practically everything on Stack Exchange with the ...

How much more effort would you have wanted?

While I did not close this question, I downvoted it, and the reason is quite obvious: revisions 1 and 2 in the revision history are not very good. (I have since retracted the downvote.) The title is ...

Is the clarity of my question's title really "dubious"? Is that even a good adjective to use in this way?

I had to look the term "Xene" up to understand what exactly the question was about. It appears to be introduced fairly recently (around 2015–2016) and first textbooks including this term were ...

Can I get a second chance to close a question?

I have no definitive proof of what I am about to write and I might be a bit rusty on the details because it's a situation that doesn't happen that often. I vaguely remember that if you retract a close ...

No. Low quality is not a close reason. If it is low quality, find a real reason to close it. This might be according to our homework policy, too broad, unclear, or another custom reason. It is best ...

Do we have a close-voting but not closing problem?

Around a year ago, I was one of those people who regularly had all close votes used up in a day. But then, after last year’s Winterbash was over, I decided to concentrate more on my real lab chemistry ...

How can a question asking what do a group of compounds have in common be put on hold because it is "too broad"?

I think an answer in the negative is still an answer. I think Jan's answer to this post on its own is an answer to the original question (possibly not the fully correct, specific answer, but it ...

How can a question asking what do a group of compounds have in common be put on hold because it is "too broad"?

So far the principal reason why this question has beed put on hold is because it is too broad. Jan's argument is that such a diverse range of compounds could not possibly have a mechanism in common (...
